Working across time zones with a freelancer in China

All of mainland China runs on one clock. Find your overlap, write things down, and review each milestone promptly.

Find your overlap

The whole of China uses a single time zone, UTC+8, with no daylight saving. Whatever city your freelancer is in, the clock is the same.

Agree on one or two hours a day when you can both answer messages. Everything else can move in writing.

Write it down

Decisions made in writing survive the time difference. Keep feedback in the project thread, attached to the milestone it concerns, so nothing depends on a call.

Review each milestone promptly

A delivery that waits a week for review stalls the next step. Freelancers are told by WeChat and SMS when you approve, so a quick review keeps the work moving.
